CES 2018 has officially kicked off today in Las Vegas. Among the interesting product demonstrations this year is ‘Sgnl’, a smart strap which connects smartphones over Bluetooth and hence allows users to receive calls using the tip of their finger.

The product allows you to listen to phone calls conducted through the tip of your finger into your ear and talk through a mic in the strap itself. Sgnl uses bone conduction technology to transmit sound from the band around your wrist, up through your hand and finger, into your ear. Once a person is on the call, a microphone placed on the strap lets the user respond to the call.

Reports suggest that Sgnl does not store any user’s contact information, but the strap can be programmed to handle up to five numbers that can be dialed without having to check your smartphone. The device also has fitness tracking and notification functionality.

The user can attach Sgnl to any regular watch face too. It also works with the Apple Watch and Android Wear watches. It works with phones running Google Android 4.4 and iOS 9 or later. It comes with a 200mAh battery, and the company claims that it can last up to 3.5 hours of talk time and four days on standby. This clearly means that the product cannot be used as a primary device for calling.

The company has notified that the strap will ship in March, first to Kickstarter and then followed by a launch globally.
