All-new BSVI Royal Enfield Classic spotted on test ahead of its official launch in India

Team OD

A test mule of a Royal Enfield motorcycle was spotted on test in India. The motorcycle did not wear any badge but the low-slung stance, split seats and a flat handlebar, it is safe to say that the bike could be a successor to the Royal Enfield Classic. However, we're unsure of the displacement for now.

The spy images show an air-cooled engine mated to an all-new gearbox housed on an all-new chassis. For the update, the new Royal Enfield will get a twin-down pipe cradle chassis - similar to the one last seen on the Continental GT 535 and recently on the 650 twins.

The styling is of a modern classic. The body panels and fenders are newly-designed. The bike gets mild chrome treatment all around. The test bike sports a gloss black colour but is as the on-going theme with RE's, expect the new bike with a variety of colour options.

The engine is expected to be heavily redesigned and the new bikes on offer could see a bump in displacement as well. The new engine will be BSVI compliant. However, the engine stays air-cooled but is mated to an all-new gearbox. Addition of the sixth cog? One can surely expect that.

The cycle parts are expected to be the same with telescopic froks in the front and dual shock absorber in the back. The bike will continue to get a twin disc setup with dual channel ABS (anti-lock braking system).

The new bike could command a premium of Rs 10,000-12,000 on the current models of the Royal Enfield Classic range. Expect the pricing between Rs 1.65-2.25 lakh for all variants. The new Royal Enfield Classic will rival the Jawa Standard and an early launch will give them an advantage over Jawa as the deliveries of the Standard and the Forty Two dual-channel ABS are yet to commence.
