BSNL announces new Rs 798 postpaid plan to fight Jio, gives users 120GB data and unlimited calling

The latest offer from BSNL for postpaid users offers unlimited calls and messages along with 120GB of data. Subscribers will also get free Amazon Prime membership.

BSNL has been quite competitive since the arrival of Reliance Jio and its slew of aggressive prices. After announcing a slew of yearly postpaid plans, BSNL is now attacking the monthly recharge segment with a brand new plan. The new plan costs around Rs 798 and offers unlimited calls and messages to the subscribers. The plan also offers a complimentary Amazon Prime membership for the subscribers. In terms of data limit, subscribers will be enjoying up to 120GB of data for a period of a month. This plan goes head-to-head with Airtel's Rs 799 plan, with the latter offering lesser data but more value.

The Rs 798 plan offers up to 120GB of data for consumers to use. However, the data is limited to 2G and 3G since BSNL hasn't yet jumped into the 4G segment. The state-owned telecom operator is presently doing trials of its 4G network in several parts of the country and if you happen to fall under the test regions, this plan will be valid for 4G devices as well.

As for calls and messages, subscribers will be able to make unlimited calls and messages, with latter capped to 100 SMSes a day, complying to TRAI's guidelines. Additionally, BSNL is offering a free subscription of Amazon Prime membership. The yearly subscription for Amazon Prime costs Rs 999 and BSNL is bundling it with this pack. Amazon Prime membership will provide priority access to deals and deliveries on Additionally, the Prime Membership also brings free access to Prime Music and Prime Video services.

However, the Rs 798 plan from BSNL is limited to postpaid users. Also, do note that this plan is only available in the Karnataka circle as of now. BSNL hasn't hinted at rolling out this plan for other circles.

BSNL offers this plan as an answer to Airtel's existing Rs 799 plan. Airtel also offers unlimited calls and unlimited messages. However, instead of 120GB that BSNL provides, Airtel offers 100GB of data. Also, unlike BSNL that validates the entire quota 120GB data to just a month, Airtel offers carry-over for unused data on its services. While Airtel also offers a free Amazon Prime subscription, it also offers three months of Netflix subscription as well.
