Asus ZenFone 6 leak suggests it will be a conventional Android flagship with Snapdragon 855
It's only the matter of a month before Asus unveils the ZenFone 6 flagship series. So far, Asus has been teasing a notch-less fullscreen display with possibly a sliding camera. Leaks have suggested the presence of flagship grade specifications, including a Snapdragon 855 chipset and the latest version of Android. With less than a month left for the launch, the ZenFone 6 has now passed FCC certification and from what it seems, it may be a conventional flagship offering from Asus.
The FCC listing suggests that Asus ZenFone 6 will feature a dual rear camera setup, which is against the trend of manufacturers putting triple camera systems. There's no information about the specifications of the camera but given that this will be an Asus flagship, the company could throw in a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor. Maybe Asus will be offering the triple camera setup on the premium ZenFone 6Z.
The listing also confirms that the device will be running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset. The Snapdragon 855 is powering the flagship phones of 2019 and it was no surprise of Asus choosing this chipset for the ZenFone 6. Given that the ZenFone 6 could be the affordable variant of the ZenFone 6 series, Asus could be positioning it as the affordable model against the likes of Xiaomi Poco F2 smartphones.
The previous leaks have also suggested that Asus will offer a conventional capacitive fingerprint sensor located at the back. This means that Asus won't be using an OLED display and will rely on an LCD panel for the device. The certification also suggests that the device will come with 18W fast charging.
So far, there have been certain leaks and speculations that suggest Asus might be opting for a manual slider design similar to Honor Magic 2 and Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. The ZenFone 6 could directly compete with the upcoming OnePlus 7 series in India. OnePlus is going for a dual-variant model for 2019 with a standard OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro. Therefore, Asus could do the same and offer two variants of the ZenFone 6 in India - the standard ZenFone 6 coming at a similar price to the ZenFone 5Z and the ZenFone 6Z with a higher price and advanced features such as triple cameras and 5G connectivity.
