Asus ROG Phone gaming smartphone India launch set for today, will be Flipkart exclusive
The day has finally arrived. Asus is bringing its ROG Phone to India today. The gaming smartphone from Asus is all set to go official in the country, and post the launch the phone will be available for purchase exclusively on Flipkart, the company has announced. The Asus ROG has been launched in other markets already, and we expect the same variant of the phone to come to India as well.
The ROG Phone was initially announced at Computex 2018, but the price of the phone wasn't revealed at the event. Days later, the Asus ROG Phone was made official on the U.S for a starting price tag of $899 - which roughly translates to Rs 63,400. This price is for the 128GB model of the phone. The high-end or 512GB storage model of the ROG Phone was launched for $1,099, which when translated to INR comes to Rs 77,500.
During the launch of the ZenFone 5Z in the month of July, Asus CEO Jerry Shen said that ROG Phone gaming smartphone will be coming to India in Q3 of 2018. He had said, "For sure, we will launch the ROG phone here in India. I cannot tell you the exact date, but it will arrive in Q3. It is already Q3, so we have three months to do so." Further commenting on bringing the gaming phone to India, Asus CEO said, "the consumers here are not like the ones in the US. Indian consumers are reasonable and care about the value and the features." Jerry also said that the ROG Phone will be much more expensive than the newly launched ZenFone 5Z. "Definitely, ROG will be priced higher than the Zenfone 5Z," Jerry had said.
In India, the ZenFone 5Z was launched in three versions -- 6GB RAM and 64GB storage, 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, and 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The base version (6GB RAM/64GB storage) was launched for Rs 29,999, the top-end version (8GB RAM/256GB) for Rs 36,999, while the mid version (8GB RAM/128GB) for Rs 32,999.
As far as the specifications are concerned, the Asus ROG Phone sports a tall 6-inch OLED Full HD+ display with a resolution of 1080×2160 pixels. On the hardware front, the phone is powered by a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor clocked to 2.96 GHz and paired with Adreno 630 GPU, which as Asus claims has been tuned for high-end gaming. This means that the ROG Phone is capable of running smoothly during gaming sessions. On the camera front, the Asus ROG Phone comes with a dual rear camera setup on the back with primary sensor of 12-megapixel and secondary sensor of 8-megapixel secondary. On the front, the phone includes an 8-megapixel selfie camera for selfies.
Furthermore, the ROG Phone comes with a feature called GameCool system, which as the name suggests is mainly used to cool down the device during heavy gaming sessions. GameCool system is basically a vapour-based cooling technology that significantly improves thermals with the help of a copper heat spreader and a 3D vapour chamber to transfer heat away from the processor. The Asus ROG phone also features like optional AeroActive Cooler that basically blow off air from the back panel of the phone, and hence improve heat dissipation. On the software front, the Asus ROG Phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo-based ROG Gaming UI.
