New Delhi, August 9: Former Union Finance Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Arun Jaitley was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi on Friday morning. Underwent a kidney transplant last year, Jaitley was admitted for a medical check-up, as he was facing with breathing issues. No update on his health has been reported as of yet, but close sources claim that he is being monitored by senior doctors of AIIMS. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Union Minister Harsh Vardhan have already reached AIIMS.
Jaitley, who had been unwell for a large part of the last two years, underwent a kidney transplant last year and visited the United States this February, when the Interim Budget was to be presented in the Parliament. In place of Jaitley, Union Minister Piyush Goyal read the Budget in the Narendra Modi's first tenure's last Budget session. Considering his declining health, Jaitley had requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to include him in the Union Cabinet, where BJP emerged as the largest party, post-Lok Sabha Elections 2019. Jaitley is not only considered as the close aide to Pm Modi, but his presence and knowledge are also acknowledged among the economists in India and abroad.
It is to be known that like Arun Jaitley, former Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj too was ill and had requested the Premier not to include her in the cabinet.
