Arun Jaitley admitted to AIIMS, likely to be kept under observation for 2-3 days

Former finance minister Arun Jaitley was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi this morning. Arun Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS's cardiology department for a medical check-up. Arun Jaitley was admitted after he complained of breathing problems.

The 66-year-old Arun Jaitley's health is being monitored by a team of endocrinologist, nephrologist and cardiologist. Arun Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS at 11 am on Friday.

Arun Jaitley has been unwell for a large part of the last two years. Last year, Arun Jaitley took a three-month sabbatical to undergo a kidney transplant, following which he was put under isolation.

Earlier, in 2014, Arun Jaitley underwent bariatric surgery to correct the weight he had gained because of a long-standing diabetic condition.

According to sources, Arun Jaitley is likley to be kept under observation for the next 2 to 3 days. Sources have told India Today TV that Arun Jaitley was brought to AIIMS after he complained of breathing anxiety. His condition is believed to be stable at the moment.

AIIMS released a health bulletin which read, "Arun Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS today morning. He is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team of doctors. At present, he is haemodynamically stable."

Hemodynamics refers to the forces the heart has to develop to maintain blood flow through the cavities of the heart and all the blood vessels Stable blood flow provides a steady supply of oxygen to all tissues and organs in the body. If a patient has stable hemodynamics, it means that the force at which the heart pumps blood is stable.

Several BJP leaders, including PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari, Ravi Shankar Prasad, JP Nadda and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, reached AIIMS to meet him.

PM Modi left after spending around 10 minutes at the hospital.

Earlier, Union ministers Amit Shah and Harshvardhan reached AIIMS along with Speaker Om Birla. All of them reached the hospital on Friday evening to check on Arun Jaitley's health.


Arun Jaitley served as the finance minister in the Narendra Modi government's first term in office. Last year, he went on a sabbatical to undergo a kidney transplant. Piyush Goyal stepped in as the interim finance minister.

Arun Jaitley returned to work in August 2018. Earlier this year, he flew to the United States for medical attention; Piyush Goyal presented the Modi govenrment 1.0's Interim Budget in February in Arun Jaitley's absence.

After the Bharatiya Janata Party returned to power with a thumping majority in the 2019 Lok Saba polls, Arun Jaitley wrote to PM Narendra Modi and told him that he'd like to stay away from "any responsibility" on account of his ill health.
