Article 370: Sitaram Yechury returns from Srinagar, to file affidavit in Supreme Court

Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury visited Srinagar on Thursday and met his party's four-time MLA Mohd Yousuf Tarigami. Yechury visited Srinagar after securing permission from the Supreme Court. Yechury is back in Delhi and will file an affidavit based upon his visit.

Speaking on his visit, Yechury said that though the government speaks of normalcy in the region, not much can be said about it.

"I didn't get to speak to anyone or go anywhere else or meet anybody else. And this is what it is. I have only met my party leader. Doctors were called in for his medical check up. On the basis of my visit, I will file with details an affidavit in the Supreme Court," Yechury told India Today.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration escorted Yechury from the airport to Tarigami's residence amid tight security. Yechury stayed at Tarigami's house during his Srinagar visit.

Yechury had filed a habeus corpus plea in the Supreme Court seeking permission to visit Tarigami, who is under arrest like former chief ministers Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. They were taken into custody after the Centre revoked special status of Jammu and Kashmir with a new Presidential Order under Article 370 on August 5.
