The price war between telecom operators continues as Airtel has announced its latest offering for its prepaid subscribers in a bid to take on Reliance Jio. The Rs 149 prepaid plan has been revised to offer new benefits in a few circles.
The Airtel Rs 149 prepaid recharge pack has been revised to now offer unlimited call benefits. If you are a subscriber, you can now avail unlimited local and STD calling benefits along with outgoing roaming for a period of 28 days. You also get 100 free SMS per day.
However, data offering with the new plan is only 1GB for the period of 28 days. According to TelecomTalk, the revised plan is not being offered across circles, and is currently restricted to the likes of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Earlier this plan offered unlimited Airtel to Airtel voice calls and 1GB 4G data for a period of 28 days. The revised offer now lets you make unlimited voice calls to any network even on roaming.
It is worth mentioning that Airtel already has a separate Rs 179 recharge plan where you get similar benefits. Now, it is unclear if the company plans to close this plan for the revised Rs 149 plan.
If compared with the Jio plan of the same value, you get 1GB of 4G data per day for a period of 28 days, which means the total data you get is 28GB. As for calling and other benefits, on the recharge of Rs 149, Jio offers unlimited local, STD. and roaming calls. You get 100 SMS per day, same as offered by Airtel. You also get access to the Jio suite of apps with the recharge.
Recently, Jio revised its prepaid plans to offer the most affordable data and calling services. The Sachet Pack are the least expensive, and start at Rs 19 to offer you 0.15GB of 4G data. This pack is valid for one day and offers you 20 SMS as well. Jio also provides you with a complimentary subscription to Jio suite of apps. The company also introduced a new Rs 799 plan for prepaid Prime subscribers who get the benefit of 5GB per day data quota for a period of 28 days.
