Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has started testing their popular compact-SUV, the Vitara Brezza. The upcoming version of the Vitara Brezza was spotted testing on Indian roads ahead of its expected launch by December 2019.
The spy pics from Gaadiwaadi reveal that the SUV will feature few cosmetic revisions. Upfront there is a new fog-lamp housing with redesigned bumpers. The all-new projector headlamp units with integrated LED DRLs. Although not much was revealed from the heavily camouflaged test mule, the front grille is also expected to receive a revision as well.
The rear of the SUV remains almost unchanged, with just minor updates expected. The wrap-around tail lights and the rear spoiler will be carried forward from the current model, although we can expect them to be subtly updated as well.
The interiors of the SUV is expected to feature certain revisions as well. This includes an updated touchscreen infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The new cabin on the upcoming 2020 Vitara Brezza will also offer a more premium and upmarket feel compared to the current model.
However, the biggest change on the Vitara Brezza will come in the form of a new petrol engine. The 2020 Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza will feature company's 1.5-litre Smart Hybrid petrol engine, that is shared between other models on the company's line-up.
This 1,462cc engine called the Smart Hybrid Vehicle from Suzuki (SHVS), produces 103.5bhp and 138Nm of torque. The engine was first featured on the Ciaz last year and is packed with three distinctive technologies: an idle start-stop system, a brake energy regeneration system, and a torque assist function.
The company will continue to offer the Vitara Brezza with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic torque converter unit.
Maruti had confirmed earlier that, they are not looking to carry forward the diesel engine featured on the Vitara Brezza to make it BS-VI compliant. Instead, they would keep the model rolling with a new petrol powered engine.
The company has also confirmed that, they would consider introducing a new diesel engine, if there is continued demand in the market for diesel-powered vehicles after the implementation of the upcoming BS-VI emission norms.
The Suzuki Vitara Brezza was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, soon after the SUV became very popular in India. It overtook the Ford EcoSport constantly registering high sales numbers and became a best-seller in compact-SUV segment.
However, the sale figures of the Vitara Brezza has been down, ever since the introduction of its feature-rich and modern compact-SUV rivals the Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV300. Maruti is hoping to recapture the market with the upcoming facelift model of the Vitara Brezza.
In other news Maruti is gearing up with the launch of yet another small hatchback called the S-Presso. The all-new tall-riding hatchback from Maruti is scheduled for launch on September 30th, 2019 - here are all the details.
Thoughts About The Suzuki Vitara Brezza Facelift Spied
With a 1.5-litre engine featured on the upcoming Vitara Brezza facelift model, it would no longer come under the excise duty concession given to the cars under 4 meter and with the engine capacity under 1,200cc. The Vitara Brezza's rivals are being offered with multiple engine options to choose from as well. Will Vitara Brezza regain its glory in the compact-SUV segment? remains to be seen.
