2 girls found hanging from tree in Gujarat, suicide pact suspected

The two cousins were spotted by the villagers in a field of Palakollu village of Nasvadi taluka in Gujarat on Friday morning.

In what is being suspected to be a suicide pact, two sisters were found hanging from a tree in Chhota Udepur district in Gujarat, a media report said.

The two cousins were spotted by the villagers in a field of Palakollu village of Nasvadi taluka on Friday morning.

Fifteen-year-old Arti Bhil and 14-year-old Misli Bhil had left their house on Thursday night after they were sent to buy soap from a local shop, police told the Times of India.

"They returned with the soap and left the house again but didn't come back," a media report quoted GB Bharwad, police sub-inspector, Nasvadi.

Even after an extensive search, the girls couldn't be found.

On Friday morning, the family members learned that the two girls had hung themselves with dupatta on a tree located about 2 km from their house.

The reason for suicide is yet to be ascertained.

"We are questioning the family, but they said that they were not aware of any problem the girls were dealing with," police said.

Police are also inquiring about the movements of the girls before they committed suicide.

Arti's father Mansukh Bhil works as a casual labourer in the fields at Nasvadi in Gujarat, while his younger brother's daughter Misli used to stay him.
