The investment seeks to maximize total return. The fund invests mainly in investment-grade bonds and debt securities or unrated bonds and debt securities which JPMIA determines to be of comparable quality. It normally invests at least 80% of assets in mortgage-backed securities, of which at least 65% of assets consists of bonds; and may purchase securities issued or guaranteed by Ginnie Mae, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The average weighted maturity normally varies between two and 10 years.
