The investment seeks a high level of total return through a combination of current income and capital appreciation. The fund normally invests at least 80% of assets in convertible securities. A convertible security is a bond, preferred stock or other security that may be converted into a prescribed amount of common stock at a predated price. It may invest up to 25% of assets in "exchangeable" convertible securities and up to 10% of assets in "synthetic" convertible securities.
