This Is Why Your Boss Hates You

Sometimes it's hard to say if it's you or your boss.

One thing's for sure: Your boss can't stand you.

1. You're full of it.

When you got hired, you committed the ultimate crime. You oversold, and now you're underdelivering. Being able to talk a good game is great, but if you're going to swear up and down that you can swim with the sharks, you better not act like a screaming, flailing drowning person when you find yourself in the deep end.

Because you can't execute, because you misrepresented yourself, because you don't have the drive, the ability, or the brains to figure how to do it once you're in it, your boss is biding his time until the day he can't wait for: getting rid of you.

2. You're not a self-starter.

Here's what you don't understand: Your boss is not here to hold your hand. Your boss is not here to micromanage you, to tell you what to do every day, to make your decisions for you. You're supposed to be able to do this job aut-on-omous-ly. But you can't. You couldn't pull the trigger on anything if your life depended on it, you sit behind your desk like you're waiting for orders, and the idea of walking into your boss's office with a creative solution to a business problem never crossed your mind.

You're this company's albatross. You're the extra weight in the trunk that works against forward motion. You don't get that being an employee means being a team player, and to be on the team, you have to get off the bench and play.

3. You're a mercenary.

You're great. You're a genius. You bring the money, the clients, the solutions. But everyone else acts like you're a wolf with rabies — because that's what you act like. Staying behind your office's closed door, refusing to interact with anyone else like they're human beings, incapable of imparting any of what you know to anyone else, you fail your peers beside and those below you, and, in doing so, you leave it up to your boss to bear the load of leadership alone.

Too bad you just don't get it. If only you'd learn it isn't all about you, your boss might give you that raise, that promotion, that responsibility you're so sure you deserve. Unfortunately, that ceiling your head keeps hitting was made by you.

I am with Batiatus...a useless article. Your boss might not like you because your taller, shorter, better looking, have a nicer husband or wife, are just an all around better human being.

How about having asked in detail what was expected. Temp agencies were available to help eventhough the staff was incompetent and unmotivated. Head Office had buried its head in the sand regarding developing a proper IT department for its divisions. A chain smoking workaholic boss, fired a female staff(chain smoker) after three months.(I had been there 3 months). She was buried in barrage of paper work due to inefficiency in the dept. The company hoarded its cash and never gave bonuses. I was a supervisor and rolled up my sleeves. After 2 years, they got a stellar review from international head office. NO Bonus! They restructured divisions, hired contract workers, got rid of employees, piled on the work on me and then got rid of me. This company had deaths at their plants(no safety control) and then got sued for quality control problems.

Your boss hates you because he'd rather have you work for him as a contractual or temp employee so he can lose minimal money paying for your salary so he gets more money for himself.

All Bosses are not necessarily perfect bosses. A good boss won't have to hate his subordinates. He would speak his mind clearly, openly and gain respect from his subordinates. But that in our country is something very rare. Some bosses are so self centered, ugly looking, short which makes them feel insecure deep inside. In order to survive they lick their superiors and expect their subordinates to lick them as well. When some subordinate is sincere, hardworking and work in the interest of organisation, an insecure Boss feels threatened and starts troubling him. In a government organisation he starts criticising such subordinate infront of his own friends in the organisation making life difficult for this honest yongster...who may be just trying to make a place for himself in the organisation...through his hard work. When confronted the Boss won't speak out and share nothing with the subordinate. Such boss may hate you for your religion, place of origin and for a reason as stupid as his wife not liking you. I have come across such people in the Navy. In such circumstances, it is better for the subordinate to try and impress the Boss of his own Boss so that this idiot won't have courage top trouble you.

I'm with CrazyCanuck...I see plenty of corporate situations where a boss doesn't like someone working under them mainly because they are threatened by them. It is common place in companies that are performance based. Many leaders seem terrified of seeing highly talented younger ones surpass them. Once that younger/more effective leader gets there day (promotion) usually those that attempted to derail their success are eliminated. It is better to work with those around you making decisions that are best for the organization. One day the leader that is most successful and leads a company will remember how you helped them realize their potential and they will take good care of you in return. Level 4 leadership...Good To Great...buy this book if you are a corporate for life employee (leader within your organization).

What if you do all you can do and your boss still hates disrepects you? This article looks at it as if you're the worse employee out there, what about what you have to deal with as an employee, some employers don't make it easy for anyone, not just yourself.

Hi its a really interested Topic... I am a subordinate as well as a boss... I know all my subordinates are productive and dependable. They working good, and giving informations in time. I also was in the same earlier, while joining the firm two years before. I had some bad experience from my boss. Let me point few.
    1. One CRM committed not passed.
    2. One False commitement, one business deal with my client I offered an offer as per Boss's talk. But at the time of billing he told not to do. I could manage it even with high slab
    3. He blocked the sales information from CFA
    4. He failed to give the sales information on time, it leads me to couldn't follow up my billing status. resulted in low productivity.
    5. He is a non performer in part of sales but strategy he is good (Its a sales organization)
    6. High attrition rate in his area
    7. Even if all my team mates on above 100%, instead of appreciation, finding only faults.
    8. Out of four managers he always sending cc to his superior on the late submission of datas from me only.

These problems I changed to send CC to his superior, after discussing with his superior, That increased the relation again into a bad way.
I am a performer, but only because of him I fear my failure. Pls help me ... I need a discussion. I only lauched the business in the state, I feel bad to give up the organization and my people...

it is just so hard to please the boss. even u played during the work hours but what is the working hours though? how long? mind it if your worker cant finish her job well. and avoid being suspicious!!!!! nakakahiya ka! plus take our shoe so you will feel us. it is a give and take situation. not only us go to your shoe. is it so random that this was posted after the conversation? was this really tells me i should wake up? is there any point that my side will be taken? is it us always the problem or is it you who will never be honest because you cannot accept your fault and factual arguments because you are wrong. always wrong. and please avoid attacking behind peoples back. confront directly! the thing is whenever we asked is there something wrong you always smile and says everything is alright!!! come on! be a man. at your age you must have known that!

I'm curious as to how Chris Chase's boss doesn't hate him. Unless, of course, he sleeps with his boss... That would explain a lot.
