NDA shutdown against petrol hike Thursday

New Delhi, May 30 (IANS) The BJP has accused the central government of increasing the petrol prices despite a fall in the global crude rates, as it stepped up efforts to make the NDA Bharat Bandh (shutdown) Thursday a success.

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders will lead the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) sponsored shutdown across the country to protest price hike and corruption by the Congress led-United Progressive Alliance (UPA). The agitation here will take place at Jantar Mantar, party leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.

Senior BJP leaders, parliamentarians, legislators will participate in the protests across the country.

"Delhi will see a protest at Jantar Mantar at 10 a.m. to protest against the anti-people policies and steep price hike in prices of essential commodities, petrol and LPG," Naqvi said.

He said there is a wide spread corruption at all levels of government and despite fall in international crude prices, the UPA government hiked prices of petrol.

Petrol prices were increased by over Rs.7 a litre last week, inviting nation-wide protest by political parties.
