Microsoft, Motorola square off

Microsoft (MSFT - News) argued in federal court in Seattle Mon. against Motorola Mobility's (MMI - News) demand for up to $4 bil in patent royalties. It said the smartphone maker didn't offer fair license terms. A Motorola attorney countered that Microsoft should have negotiated vs. sue. Judge James Robart deferred rulings on motions and scolded both firms, saying he's "being played as a pawn" in the dispute. Microsoft fell 1.1%. Motorola Mobility rose 0.9%.
