Around 12 Kingfisher flights were cancelled today after the more than four dozen Kingfisher pilots called in sick in protest against non-payment of due salaries.
Times of India sources say a section of Kingfisher pilots have got their due salary, especially the co-pilots. However, Captains have not yet been paid. According to the pilots, they were assured by the management that their salary for the month of January will be paid by May 9, 2012 but it did not happen due to which they started reporting sick.
Some Kingfisher Airlines employees have even accused the management of arm-twisting them. Pilots and engineers working in the cash-strapped airline's Mumbai sector alleged on Friday that promoter, Vijay Mallya, was turning vindictive after their threat to go on strike over their unpaid salaries.
The government yesterday, May 10, 2012, had initiated legal action against Kingfisher Airlines "towards dishonour of the cheques submitted" by the carrier.
Kingfisher Airline stocks fell by one percent during trade today to Rs 13.70.
More to come...
