India's share in global trade up: Minister

New Delhi, May 9 (IANS) Admitting that India's trade deficit has grown, the government Wednesday said the country was still performing better than most countries and its share in global trade has increased.

Replying supplementary questions in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Commerce Jyotiraditya Scindia said India's share in international trade had risen to 1.8 percent and the country was 20th rank in global trade, up from 27th in 2007.

Scindia said trade deficit had, however, grown due to depreciation in value of rupee and increasing prices of crude oil.

"We are focusing on the markets of Latin America, Africa, Oceania and CIS," Scindia added.
