New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation may file a chargesheet against country's top telecommunication operators Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India as early as next month over allotment of excess second generation radio waves bandwidth in January 2002, media reports said, citing unidentified officials of the investigative agency.
The agency is expected to complete by August its investigation over allotment of radio waves bandwidth to Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India during 2001 and 2002, the reports said Wednesday.
CBI in its probe has found irregular allocation of additional spectrum beyond 6.2 megahertz (MHz) to up to 10 MHz to GSM operators, including Bharti and Vodafone, with additional spectrum usage charges of only 1% of the adjusted gross revenue.
The agency raided the offices of Bharti and Vodafone India Ltd in November 2011 and had alleged that the government suffered a loss of Rs 5.08 billion after late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan granted additional radio waves to these companies in 2002.
