Guwahati, Sep 19 (IANS) Assam Wednesday warned of stern action against those government officials who do not report to their offices during the opposition sponsored nationwide shutdown Thursday over FDI in retail and the diesel price hike.
A notification issued in the state capital Dispur said that the state government might opt for a pay cut or a break in service and any other disciplinary action if anyone is found absent on Thursday.
The notice issued by the state government has asked all the government offices to ensure normal functioning during the whole day.
The shutdown called by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and other non-Congress parties is in protest against the UPA government's recent decision to hike the diesel price, allow foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail and limit the subsidized cooking gas.
The notification issued to all the heads of offices and departments Wednesday also instructed to deduct pay and allowances for unauthorized absence from offices and duties tomorrow and to initiate disciplinary action for such unauthorized absence.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has also announced that nine LPG cylinders will given to per family per year in Assam at subsidized rate instead of the central government's earlier decision to allot six cylinders at subsidized rate per family per year.
"I have already sent necessary instruction to the officers of the concerned department to increase it to nine cylinders at subsidized rate per family a year," said Gogoi while interacting with newsmen, in the sidelines of an official function in Guwahati Wednesday.
Gogoi had also said that he had appealed to the Centre not to go back on the decision to allow FDI in multi-brand retails.
