The Central Bureau of Investigation raided the houses of Former Telecom Minister A Raja in Chennai and New Delhi on Wednesday morning.
It had earlier raided the houses of former telecom secretary Siddharth Behura and A Raja's aide Chandolia in connection with the 2G scam that has tainted the entire telecom industry.
The CBI said it is carrying out raids at the premises of five persons in connection with the 2G spectrum allocation case but no arrests have been made.
"We have raided the premises of five persons. Raids are still on and any further details cannot be given as of now," CBI Director AP Singh told reporters
Raja was forced to quit as the telecom minister last month after a CAG report found him guilty in the 2G spectrum and circumventing the rules to favour companies who did not meet the eligibility criteria for spectrum licences. The loss - worth Rs. 1.76 lakh crore - constitutes India's largest-ever scam.
The disgraced former Telecom minister was in the midst of another controversy after the Madras High Court on Tuesday suspended from the Bar a top lawyer allegedly involved in an attempt to influence a judge by taking the minister's name.
A division Bench of the Madras High Court suspended the Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry Bar Council chairman R K Chandramohan who tried to act as the conduit between Raja, then the IT and Communications Minister, and the judge, to ensure that the anticipatory bail petition of a father-son duo close to Raja was considered favourably by the court.
