Cyrus Mistry, will take over from Rata Tata as the Chairman of Tata Sons from December 2012 onward. He would be the youngest director of the Tata Group, aged 46.
Who is Cyrus Mistry?
Cyrus Mistry is the younger son of Pallonji Shapoorji Mistry who owns an 18 per cent stake in Tata Sons which he recently divided between his two sons. So, Cyrus effectively owns 9 per cent in Tata Sons, even more than Ratan Tata who only owns 1 per cent. The future chairman's sister is married to Ratan Tata's half-brother Noel Tata, who was also believed to be a candidate to be the next chairman of Tata.
Cyrus Mistry completed his Master of Science in Management from London Business School and is Fellow of the Institute of Civil Engineers. He holds a B.E.(Civil Engineering) from Imperial College and a Bachelor of Commerce from Mumbai University.
Mistry was the Former Director, Chairman of Remuneration Committee, Member of Audit Committee, Member of Executive Committee and Member of Nominations Committee at Tata Power and joined the board of Tata Sons in the year 2004.
He currently also serves on the board of AFCONS Infrastructure Limited as the Chairman and Member of Committee of Directors and on the Board of Shapoorji Pallonji Finance Ltd as Director and Member of Audit Committee. Mistry has previously been the director of United Motors(india), Tata Elxis and Gokak Textiles.
